S'mac that bitch up

Last night was supposed to meet an old friend at S'mac, a mac n cheese joint on 12th St. in the E. Village. But true to form old friend was late and it filled up quick so we headed to Typhoon Lounge, on St. Mark's close to 1st Ave. Food wasn't as good as I remember - we ordered fresh cucumbers w/ miso, pork belly and saikoro steak, which is cubed steak served on a sizzling platter w/ a creamy garlic jalapeno sauce. Happy beef cubes FTL. I didn't take any photos of the food - I was too hungry.

Afterwards we headed to Chikalicious on 10th and 2nd:


We started with vanilla sorbet in apple soup. I ordered the above fromage blanc island "cheese cake," which was served with milk. It was like eating a cream cheese cloud.


This is brown sugar panna cotta (you can see the sugar cubes if you look closely) with grapefruit sorbet and a proseco bath. Panna cotta is one of my favorite things but I didn't order this for fear that the brown sugar would be too strong. But it wasn't - lots of mild flavor.


At the end of dessert they served us petit fours: flourless chocolate cake, kumquat-poppyseed shortbread cookies and coconut marshmallows.
